One iOS user for every two Windows 7 users
Daring Fireball pointed out today that Microsoft has sold 400 million licenses of Windows 7. Apple mentioned a few days ago that they’re at 200 million iOS users. That’s one iOS user for every two Windows 7 users worldwide.
Of course the comparison makes no sense for a variety of reasons - one’s a desktop OS; one’s a mobile OS. One’s been out for 2 years; one’s been out for 4 years. One was fighting a completely failed predecessor and widespread adoption of legacy products from the same company; one had basically zero competition for the first two years of its existence. And a lot of people probably sync their iOS device to their Windows 7 desktop.
But still. This kind of OS comparison between Apple and Microsoft a couple years ago would have been unthinkable. Personally, I’m surprised that the Windows 7 numbers are as high as they are. I only know one person using Windows 7, but all of my friends use iPhones.
